Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!
"Grate wasabi while laughing."
[BGM 'Ai wo Sakebe']
This is the popularly mentioned way of grating wasabi. If you laugh while grating wasabi, apparently that allows for good grating as you don't exert too much strength. In other words, it's better not to leave it to strength.
This was sent in by listener Yuuko-san of Hyogo. The message reads:
"Satoshi-kun, good morning. The other day on radio you said you'd grate wasabi for Sho-kun and cut up octopus and bring it to Sho-kun's place. Have you brought him any octopus yet? It'd be wasteful to have the unskillful Sho-kun grate wasabi (laughs) so please, skillful Satoshi-kun, grate the wasabi and bring it to him!"
I don't think he's unskilled at it! (laughs)
So well, we did that, didn't we? Last year, during the Osaka concerts, when we went for a meal. Sho-kun, who was next to me — we were next-door neighbours — like, that came up in conversation.
So today, man, today's pretty incredible. I currently have, right in front of me, wasabi and octopus. Shall we?
So like... A piece, yeah... The way to grate wasabi, right... Um, for me, the wasabi root? The stalk? No... Basically there's the end of the wasabi, right? And sometimes well, it gets kinda old. So I cut that bit off. Then I start grating from there.
But that's not right. Apparently you're supposed to start grating from the stalk. The tip of the stalk is apparently softer.
Ah, it's true! What a pretty green. Imma grate these in circular motions. While laughing. (laughs)
Here goes! (laughs and grates)
Ahh, but it's coming out beautifully! Naturally if you laugh while grating, you don't exert too much strength. (grating sounds continue)
Ah, whoops, I got too serious there! (laughs) Ah, but it smells great! I've grated quite a bit.
Uwaa, that's incredible! It's a beautiful yellow-green. Uwaa, that's incredible! Smells great. Can I? I'm going to try some. Itadakimasu!
Ah, delicious! Uwaa! Mm! Mmmm! Mm. I want some cucumber. (laughs)
Man, but that's interesting. So wasabi like this isn't spicy. Mm. This way of grating it is the best. Ahh, that's kinda a new discovery. You grate it from the tip.
I'll do that! Grating. I'm going to the supermarket today, anyway. (laughs)
Ah, delicious! Man... Can I end it here, folks? I've had my fill, can I end it here? Folks? Sorry for eating while doing so!
That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
