Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!
"夏雲奇峰 (kaun kihou)"
[BGM 'Summer Splash']
It's 'kaun kihou', folks. This is a four-character idiom that expresses the cumulonimbus clouds with unusual peaks attached that can be seen in a blue summer sky.
In kanji, 'kaun' is written with the characters for 'summer 夏' and 'cloud 雲'. 'Kihou' is written with the characters for 'strange 奇' and 'peak 峰'.
This was sent in by listener Yumi-san from Atsugi. The message reads:
"The other day, when I looked up at the sky from the commuter train, I caught sight of white clouds that were starting to turn a little green on slightly pink and pale blue clouds. 'Summer is on its way,' I thought with excitement. Satoshi-kun, you've mentioned that you also like summer before, right? Most years I think you preparing for the concert tours is your impression of summer, but this year I guess your impression of summer would be filming for the movie. Does live action seem like it's going to be a tough summer for Satoshi-kun? Please do your best without getting injured!"
Thank you very much. It's 20th July. It's that time of the year, isn't it? Summer holidays, right?
Like, I recall... I was probably in the first year of middle school - or possibly the 2nd, I don't know. Before I joined Johnnys. I was in the badminton club. I think it was probably the summer holidays, just barely before, I remember I went to watch a senior's match. And then the next day it was the start of the summer holidays. In a nearby park there was a festival. I remember that flow of events.
But what I'll always remember are the uniforms. They wear them too, right, the girls?
So like, you'd expect them to be wearing yukata at the summer festivals, right? So when they did that, naturally... I just remembered myself going, "Ah!" (laughs)
Like, "Ah, it's kinda different..." There was something like that. Back then, I was sort of indifferent to fashion. But back then, around about 2nd year of middle school, baggy jeans were kinda in fashion, I think? I was like... I mean, naturally I'd just joined Johnnys' and I'd just entered my 2nd year of middle school and I'd see all these Johnnys' seniors before me. Naturally, they were stylish, right?
I mean, (Morita) Go-kun from V6, he was the top for fashion! And like, everyone was copying him. He was cool, after all, really. So I thought that was amazing. Even though I didn't know him, you could see I'd sorta copy him a little. He really had great fashion sense.
I mean, I went to Harajuku and all, to go shopping. I went to Takeshita-dori in Harajuku and walked around with my friends. And then there was this delicious tonkatsu store. So first we ate that, then we'd hit the vintage clothes stores.
So those were my memories of summer. Summer is made of those kinds of memories, right? Like festivals and all. I had a little bit of those.
So on that note, this year I think there'll be wonderful summer memories as well. For all you folks too, if you're going to a festival, make sure you do lots and make good memories!
That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
